Brian & Angela
Curtis
Married Authors Partner for the Future
by Cesca Janece Waterfield, Urban Views Weekly LLC
Brian and Angela Curtis are examples of the partnership possible in marriage. Both are candidates in individual Ph.D. programs. As a high school guidance counselor, Brian teaches young people to manage their lives and future, while Angela, who’s a customer service executive, teaches personal management strategies.
But there may be no greater test of partnership than during tragedy. In 2000, when the couple’s first child died at only two weeks old, Angela began recording her conflicting and painful emotions in a journal. Five years and ten volumes later, she put the books away.
Then one night, she describes being inspired to assemble a collection designed to help others cope with grief. Angela says the resulting book, From Mourning to Morning: Putting on the Garment of Praise, helps readers “move from pain to praise, and from grief to glory.” Just months after its release, she appeared in an issue of Jet Magazine alongside Vanessa Williams, Patti Labelle and a clinical psychologist, lending her expertise on coping with holiday blues.
